Everyone at Maesgwyn learns in a small class with lots of adults to help, including a class LSA who stays with the group for most of the day and understands each pupil’s learning and wellbeing needs.
How we teach
- Tasks are broken into manageable chunks, and instructions are kept to two sentences or fewer using familiar words, especially when something is new.
- Staff check understanding by asking pupils to repeat instructions back.
- Literacy, numeracy and digital skills are built into every lesson, alongside weekly literacy and numeracy lessons with personal targets.
- Reading, comprehension, spelling and numeracy are assessed at least twice a year so we can set the right targets.
- Every pupil has a timetable to map out their day, and an All About Me profile that tells adults how best to support them.
